Last week, 19 Austin Police Department officers were indicted by another far-left District Attorney.
While the city of Austin has become a uber-progressive haven, the murder rate has gone through the roof.
Instead of worrying about fighting crime, Travis County DA Joe Garza is looking to prosecute police officers.
This week, Governor Abbott made a statement, slamming Garza and sticking up for law enforcement.
Out of Control
Austin, TX, is one of the many Democrat-run cities in this country that bought into the entire defund the police movement.
It was a constant sore spot between Governor Abbott and local elected officials.
With morale already in the tank and fewer officers on the street, DA Jose Garza is about to drop the hammer on 19 more police officers.
The officers were indicted on felony charges by another Soros disciple determined to turn our major cities into lawless ghettos.
After the indictments were announced, Abbott stated, “Last year, Austin set an all-time record for the number of murders.
“It comes as no surprise that murders increased after Austin decreased funding for law enforcement.
“In Texas, we do not defund and denigrate our law enforcement officers.
“Instead we support them for risking their own lives and safety to protect our communities from people who endanger and attack our communities.”
The officers are being charged for hurting protesters during the quelling of the George Floyd riots.
It should be noted, the fine people of Austin elected Garza on a platform of aggressively going after the police.
What was their crime? Hitting protesters with beanbags that were issued to them during the rioting.
Attorney Doug O’Connell defended the officers and claimed Garza’s indictments are being directed at the wrong people.
He stated, “The department issued these officers old and deteriorated beanbag rounds.
“So rather than coming out as a soft beanbag they came out as a hardened projectile…so you had rioters who were seriously injured by these beanbags and it shouldn’t have happened but it’s not the officers’ fault it’s management’s fault.
“It’s probably a very righteous personal injury case. But it doesn’t make the officers’ actions illegal or a criminal offense.”
We are getting to a point in this country where officers are going to be fearful of responding to any crime or riot, knowing any action they take, even when their own life is at risk, could land them behind bars.
Meanwhile, the very people they are tasked with arresting are walking out of jail the next day, literally laughing at police.
If this keeps up, you won’t have to defund the police because there will not be anyone that wants to be a cop in these cities.
