Uvalde School Shooting: 19 Children, 2 Teachers Dead

Early Tuesday, the nation was once again horrified by yet another school shooting.

The initial body count was terrible enough, but it has climbed overnight.

After the attack, there were 14 children and one teacher pronounced dead.

Today, that count has risen to 19 children and two teachers, with more still hospitalized.

Mass Shooting v. Crime

In addition to the children and teachers, two officers were also wounded during the attack before the shooter could be terminated.

Salvador Ramos, an Uvalde local, had a handgun and possibly a rifle when he entered the school and opened fire.

Governor Abbott stated, “Texans across the state are grieving for the victims of this senseless crime and for the community of Uvalde.

“Cecilia and I mourn this horrific loss and we urge all Texans to come together to show our unwavering support to all who are suffering.”

Overnight, I was checking social media and saw thousands of attacks against the state of Texas and Governor Abbott, so that is what I want to address here today.

Not sure how this statement will go over, but mass shootings are not something that should be politicized.

These attacks are far different than violent crime, an issue that builds and is directly impacted by policies in place.

Regardless of where they occur, red, blue, or purple state, mass shootings are a product of a broken individual that snapped.

When these shootings happen in blue states, everyone concentrates on the victims.

When they happen in red states, it suddenly is the Governor’s fault, especially in Texas.

Did anyone blame Newsom when six people were shot at a mall in Los Angeles on December 31?

Did anyone blame Governor Polis when eight people were shot, six of them fatally, in Denver and Lakewood on December 27?

This shooting is clearly more horrific, with more than a dozen children already having lost their lives.

My point, however, is why are we not able to figure out what breaks these people to the point that someone turns a gun on his grandmother and then enters a school and murders children?

Why can we not spot the signs of this break and prevent this from happening?

Someone had to notice something. Someone had to see a change, yet nobody said a word and now the city of Uvalde will never be the same.

Dozens of families will never be the same.

If it wasn’t a gun, it would have been a knife or a bomb because when someone is broken to this point and wants to commit an evil act as horrific as this, they are going to find a way.

Why are we incapable of seeing that?
