For Michael Madigan, the Democrat from Illinois, it was a long run.
Now, he might be paying the price for it.
The former speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives is being indicted.
Madigan held unchallenged power in the state for literally decades.
He was indicted on March 2 on federal racketeering charges.
Madigan is alleged to have participated in several bribery schemes.
Obviously the people Madigan was supposed to be serving in office were outraged to learn what kind of man he really was.
The Chicago Tribune reported that a 22-count indictment was returned by a federal grand jury.
A years-long investigation of the politician preceded the indictment.
Madigan was state House speaker in Illinois for 35 years.
He only resigned once the bribery charges surfaced last year.
