I hate to say it, but we will need to see Mike Pence testify before the January 6 committee after this week’s hearing.
The committee played a pre-recorded interview, and now it has the media all abuzz.
They were clearly worried about the VP’s safety, but a big leap was made again from what was said to what they “think” they meant.
In Fear for Their Lives
The committee played recorded testimony from a staffer that did not want to be identified for fear of retribution.
The security official was asked about a note written during the riot that stated, “Service at the Capitol does not sound good right now.”
When asked what it meant, he explained, “The members of the V.P. detail at this time were starting to fear for their own lives.
“There was a lot of yelling, a lot of very personal calls over the radio…it was disturbing, I don’t like talking about it.
“But there were calls to say goodbye to family members, so on and so forth.
“It was getting—for whatever the reason was on the ground, the V.P. detail thought that this was about to get very ugly…everybody kept saying—at that point it was just reassurances, or I think there were discussions of reinforcements coming, but again, it was just chaos.
“There was just yelling.”
He continued, “If they’re running out of options and they’re getting nervous, it sounds like we came very close to either service having to use lethal options or worse.
“At that point I don’t know, is the V.P. compromised? Is the detail compromised?
“We didn’t have visibility, but it doesn’t—if they’re screaming and saying things like ‘say goodbye to the family,’ the floor needs to know this is going to a whole other level soon.”
Not to be pessimistic, but I want to hear from Pence and the members of his detail, on the record, that that is what was happening at the time.
I have seen the pictures and did not see that panic by them at that moment.
The problem with this committee is that they are only telling the side of the story they want people to hear.
They have yet to put a single witness on the stand to corroborate conjecture and hearsay testimony.
