NRSC Chairman Warns Senate May Remain with Democrats

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee chairman, is tempering hopes for a complete GOP takeover of Congress.

Scott is not blind, meaning he can see that numerous Trump-backed candidates are likely to get run over in key elections.

That being the case, he wants Republicans to know right now that the takeover of the Senate is no longer a likely outcome.

Odds Against

Currently, we have a 50-50 Senate, but that is not likely to remain after this election.

Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania were widely believed to be the seats that would determine the balance of power.

Trump has his candidates in all three of those races and based on current polling, all three of them are likely to lose.

Senator Scott also reminded everyone there are more open Republican seats than Democrat seats.

He stated, “We have 21 Republicans up, only 14 Democrats.

“The Democrats are outraising us, but we have good candidates.

“And I believe Joe Biden is going to be our key here.”

Minority Leader McConnell (R-KY) also tempered hopes, stating, “I think it’s going to be very tight. We have a 50-50 nation.

“And I think when this Senate race smoke clears, we’re likely to have a very, very close Senate still, with us up slightly or the Democrats up slightly.”

Both are also trying to ensure that if Republicans take back both chambers, it is deemed a huge win, not an overall disappointment.

Many expect the GOP to take back the Senate and have an overwhelming win in the House.

By tempering the mood, small wins in both chambers or a small win in the House and a small loss or even situation in the Senate can still be portrayed as a positive outcome.

As we know from the last two elections, regardless of what is happening in the real world, you never know what will happen on election day.
