A rather bizarre “attack” took place at the Capitol on Sunday.
A man reportedly drove his car into the barriers near the Capitol.
When he emerged from the vehicle, he opened fire, then turned the gun on himself.
Crazy Man
The driver of the car has since been identified as Richard A. York III, 29, of Delaware.
At around 4 a.m. EDT in Washington, D.C., he drove the sedan into the barrier at East Capitol and Second Streets.
His car soon became engulfed in flames.
York emerged from the vehicle, randomly firing his weapon into the air.
He then turned the weapons on himself and took his own life.
After the incident, the Capitol Police stated, “At this time, it does not appear the man was targeting any Members of Congress, who are on recess, and it does not appear officers fired their weapons.”
There is now an active investigation underway by the D.C. Metro Police.
