The Democrats trying to weaponize January 6 was about as easy to predict as the winter COVID surge.
There was only one reason they wanted to turn today into a memorial: to weaponize the events of the day against the GOP and, more specifically, against Donald Trump.
Part of this is politicizing the day to push Democrat wish list legislation, and Senator McConnell (R-KY) seems stunned that this actually took place.
Enough!
While I have not watched a second of the Democrat events today, I have been checking the summary points.
Joe Biden’s speech read like a political campaign speech.
Kamala Harris was even worse, equating January 6 with two of the more devasting days in our country’s history.
McConnell was fuming over the narratives being used, specifically in Democrats trying to push voting reform legislation to ensure they are the brokers of power in DC.
McConnell stated, “It is beyond distasteful for some of our colleagues to ham-fistedly invoke the Jan. 6 anniversary to advance these aims.
“It is jaw-dropping for colleagues to propose to commemorate that by breaking the Senate themselves.”
He continued, “No party that would trash the Senate’s legislation traditions can be trusted to seize control over election laws all across America.
“Nobody who is this desperate to take over our democracy on a one-party basis can be allowed to do it.”
McConnell was surely referring to statements made by Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.), who stated, “Let me be clear: January 6th was a symptom of a broader illness — an effort to delegitimize our election process, and the Senate must advance systemic democracy reforms to repair our republic or else the events of that day will not be an aberration – they will be the new norm.”
There are two things to take away from all this.
First, we cannot help but mention the fact that many of the allegations made by Democrats are the very acts they are and have been committing.
Secondly, why does McConnell act so surprised by the events taking place?
Is he that out of tune with what is going on these days that he could not see these attacks coming?
It is just more proof that McConnell is a relic that needs to be booted out of office and replaced with someone in leadership that will do more than just talk and pretend to be outraged.
If we do not get more aggressive leadership in Congress, Dems will take over… mark my words.
Do you think Dems will be able to break the filibuster to force through voting legislation?
