One of the most iconic and recognizable voices in music has passed away.
Meat Loaf, who blessed us all with tunes that were the soundtrack to our lives, is dead.
He was 74 years old.
Another Legend Dies
Meat Loaf, born Michael Aday, had played a part in the life of most people that grew up in the 70s and 80s.
While we all celebrate his music, many people do not realize this man had a significant acting career as well.
His first role ever was uncredited in “State Fair” in 1962.
He played in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” “Scavenger Hunt,” “Wayne’s World,” “South Park,” and of course, “Fight Club,” just to name a few of his more than 100 acting credits.
Meat Loaf also did considerable stage work, playing in a local “The Rocky Horror Show” and “Hair,” just to name a few.
It was his music, however, that truly touched us all.
“Bat Out of Hell” remains a popular album even though it was released more than three decades ago.
It is not uncommon to see teenagers and 20-something’s belting out many songs from that amazing album.
In 1994. Meat Loaf won the Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Solo, for “I’d Do Anything for Love”…
Quite frankly, it is baffling to me how he did not win more awards.
How “Bat Out of Hell” did not win Album of the Year nor any song from the album winning Song of the Year is beyond me.
Initially, the album received mixed reviews in the United States, but it did dramatically better overseas.
As noted above, it took almost two decades for the album to be fully appreciated for the genius it contained.
Rest in peace, Meat Loaf, and know that your fans will truly miss you and your iconic voice.
