Many of us never expected to hear this message so early.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has an update on Russia’s attempt to capture the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv.
Putin’s “probably given up.”
Many thought that Putin’s only real plan has been to simply steamroll Ukraine, with really no backup plan if he wasn’t able to get it done.
At least according to Austin, that might be changing.
“I think Putin has probably given up on his effort to capture the capital city and is now focused on the south and east of the country.”
“Putin thought he could really rapidly take over the country of Ukraine, very rapidly take over the capital city; he was wrong,” Austin said.
Austin was speaking during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing.
His assessment comes after Putin spokesperson conceded that Russia has experienced “significant loss of troops.”
The Russian government called the deaths a “huge tragedy.”
