The cases of the rioters arrested during the George Floyd rioting are finally coming to fruition.
While far fewer of them were arrested and charged than we would have liked to have seen, we are finally starting to see some sentences handed out.
The man who threw a Molotov cocktail at police is among those who were charged.
He has just been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Throw Away the Key
It has baffled many of us that authorities went after Capitol rioters with far more zeal than they did the George Floyd rioters.
However, with the ones they did charge, we are all hoping they throw the book at them.
Among those would be Malik Muhammed.
Muhammed has chosen to take a plea deal on 14 felony charges due to his role in the Portland rioting.
He will now have to pay a $200,000 restitution fine as well as serve 10 years in prison.
Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt stated, “On September 5, 2020, Muhammed constructed multiple Molotov cocktails.
“He then brought those explosive devices, along with baseball bats, to a planned protest event that evening at the East Portland Police Precinct Building.
“During the event, Muhammed handed out the bats and threw multiple explosive devices in the direction of police officers.
“One of those devices landed short and caused a fiery explosion which engulfed a fellow protester in flames, causing severe injuries to that person’s legs.”
If you ask me, the sentence is still a bit lean, especially when considering some of the sentences we have seen in the Capitol cases.
