Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) does not like Donald Trump.
Romney supported Trump for all of about two seconds when he thought he could worm his way into the administration.
Romney also voted to impeach Trump, yet he just made a rather startling announcement.
There for the Taking
As you all know, Trump has not yet decided if he will run in 2024, or at least he has not announced his decision.
Most believe that if Trump does decide to run, most Republicans will steer clear of the primary.
There will be exceptions by anti-Trump Republicans, of course, but none of them have Trump’s profile or support.
Furthermore, the more of them that run, the more they split the anti-Trump vote.
Romney seems to get that, stating that Trump is “very likely” to win the nomination if he throws his hat into the ring.
He also knows his influence and support in the party are waning.
He stated, “It’s hard to imagine anything that would derail his support.
“So if he wants to become the nominee in ‘24, I think he’s very likely to achieve that.”
Romney added, “I don’t delude myself into thinking I have a big swath of the Republican Party.”
On Tuesday, Trump had a rather remarkable day, claiming to have gone 22-0 in primary endorsements.
The former president still has some very big primary races upcoming where he will surely take some defeats.
Having said that, the real test of his influence and favorability will be in November when his candidates face off against Democrats.
