Ayman al-Zawahiri was a longtime loyalist to bin Laden before he was killed by Navy SEALS.
After bin Laden’s death, al-Zawahiri became the leader of Al Qaeda.
This past December, rumors surfaced that he had died, but those rumors now appear to have been just that, rumors.
New Video
To mark the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, a video was released featuring the terrorist.
This was the first video that has been seen for months, with a video in March offering no real proof that it could not have been taped prior to his death.
Then, this post showed up…

The video also referenced events that happened post-December 2020, which is when the rumors surfaced that al-Zawahiri had died…
17) Amid rumors of his death, al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri shown in new 60-minute video, this time offering some evidence that he is not dead–particularly, reference to events after December, when rumors of death surfaced. (A speech from March offered no such proof) pic.twitter.com/IXpz6wIZvh

In the video, he specifically mentioned a raid against a Russian military base by Hurras al-Deen in Syria, a group aligned with Al Qaeda.
That raid reportedly happened on January 1, 2021.
While he does discuss the Afghanistan withdrawal in the video, he does not mention the Taliban’s victory, which means the video could still have been recorded at some point in January of this year, which means he could still be dead.
The problem, however, is that there has yet to have been any solid evidence of his death provided by intelligence agencies.
If al-Zawahiri is alive, this is a game-changer in terms of Al Qaeda getting reorganized now that the Taliban controls Afghanistan.
