At the top of Biden’s wish list when he moved into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue was closing Guantanamo Bay.
Not it seems that the closure may take a bit longer than planned.
After reports surfaced that the administration was searching for a contractor to assist with migrant detentions, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) lashed out.
No, Joe
Guantanamo Bay came into existence via a George W. Bush Executive Order in 2002.
Obama did everything he could to get the facility shut down, reducing prisoners to about four dozen by the end of his term.
Trump more or less stopped the drawdown, but Joe Biden vowed to have the base closed.
Yet, Immigrants and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is now reportedly looking for a contractor to take control of the base.
The posting, as reported by NBC News, stated that at “least 10% of the augmented personnel must be fluent in Spanish and Haitian Creole.”
This is of note considering the recent surge of Haitian immigrants at the Texas border.
The natural assumption here is that Haitians will be moved to the facility.
After the report was posted, this was AOC’s response…
Utterly shameful. https://t.co/yWNKTCVa24
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) September 22, 2021
DHS responded, “DHS is not and will not send Haitian nationals being encountered at the southwest border to the Migrant Operations Center (MOC) in Guantanamo Bay.
“The MOC has been used for decades to process migrants interdicted at sea for third-country resettlement.
“The request for information (RFI) recently posted is a typical, routine first step in a contract renewal, and unrelated to the Southwest Border.”
In regard to AOC’s post, what is actually shameful is that she is once again making more noise about illegal immigrants than she is about the welfare of Americans left behind in Afghanistan.
With every passing day, we see the true priorities of the Democrat Party, specifically the Squad.
