Yesterday, I speculated that the Democrats might have orchestrated the leak from the Supreme Court.
This will clearly be their rally cry for the 2022 cycle now.
Not only that but people like AOC plan on also using it to pressure pro-life and moderate Dems to cower to their demands or risk losing their seats.
Here’s the Thing
First and foremost, there is an enormous amount of misinformation going on right now regarding the Supreme Court brief and Roe v. Wade.
Most people in this country do not even realize that when Roe v. Wade was first ruled upon, there were even major progressive groups that openly stated they never thought the ruling would hold up to constitutional scrutiny.
This belief is centered around the decision’s very loose ties to the 14th Amendment.
Secondly, by overturning Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court is NOT making abortion illegal.
What it does is kick the issue back to states, where it belongs, where local legislators can determine the abortion restrictions within their respective states.
This is about allowing the people of every state to be truly represented on a significant issue, not having the federal government force this.
Rep. Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) cares little about this… the leak is all about applying pressure to moderates to end the filibuster so Democrats can ram through legislation without the input of Republicans.
AOC is already applying the screws or Senator Sinema (D-AZ), who refuses to end the filibuster.
To that point, she stated, “We could protect Roe tomorrow, but Sinema refuses to act on the filibuster.
“Until that changes she can take a seat talking about ‘women’s access to health care.'”
She added, “Hold everyone contributing to this disaster accountable, GOP & Dem obstructionists included. She should be primaried.”
This is precisely why abortion should be controlled at the state level.
Why should people who do not support abortion be forced to spend taxpayer money on abortions?
If you want lax abortion laws, live in a state that offers loose abortion rules… it really is that simple.
Furthermore, why is a woman from New York, who has literally done nothing for her constituents, getting involved in the politics of a state halfway across the country?
If voters are unhappy with Sinema, Arizonans will vote her out and put someone else in there that better represents their needs and wants.
And, for the record, Sinema is in favor of Roe v. Wade, just not ending the filibuster.
She completely understands the short-sighted nature of ending the filibuster and realizes that one law, regardless of how important it is to a party, is not worth ending the one protection we have in Congress of a single party with a simple majority running roughshod over the other party and ramming through partisan legislation.
Democrats had plenty of time after Roe v. Wade to put through legislation via Congress, but they never did it.
There is no one to blame for that other than the Democrat Party itself.
