We are seeing 2017-2021 all over again in 2022.
When Trump was in office, there was a clear division in the Republican Party.
The media often accused the GOP of “eating its own” when politicians like Rep. Cheney (R-WY) were censured for fighting back against Trump.
The media blew the narrative up and Democrats were very critical of the actions.
However, now the Democrat Party is doing the same, and leadership is sitting on its hands.
Senator Sinema (D-AZ) has stuck by her guns on the filibuster even though she has expressed support for the legislation at hand.
She is unwilling to blow up the one control that the Senate has to ensure one party cannot push through partisan legislation… the filibuster.
Much like Cheney faced when she pushed back against Trump, Sinema is now being attacked by her state party.
The Arizona Democrat Party has now censured Sinema for refusing to cave on the filibuster.
Arizona Democratic Party Chair Raquel Terán stated, “I want to be clear, the Arizona Democratic Party is a diverse coalition with plenty of room for policy disagreements, however on the matter of the filibuster and the urgency to protect voting rights, we have been crystal clear.
“In the choice between an archaic legislative norm and protecting Arizonans’ right to vote, we choose the latter, and we always will.”
She added, “While we take no pleasure in this announcement, the ADP Executive Board has decided to formally censure Senator Sinema as a result of her failure to do whatever it takes to ensure the health of our democracy.”
So, here is something interesting to consider specifically due to the language used in the rebuke.
In 2017, then-Senator Kamala Harris voted in favor of keeping the filibuster in place.
My question is this… how did something become archaic in less than five years when the sitting number two in the country voted in support of it in the last five years?
Do you think Sinema should have been censured?
