Karine Jean-Pierre has filled in for Jen Psaki enough times that this transition from Deputy to Press Secretary should not have been difficult.
Having said that, after seeing her performances before Psaki left, I warned that this was a train wreck waiting to happen.
My crystal ball was accurate, as she is getting crushed by the media after a horrific day one.
Excruciating to Watch
Fox News’ Peter Doocy absolutely demolished Jean-Pierre during her first presser.
When asked how raising corporate taxes helps inflation, she had no answer.
After dancing around the question several times, she finally gave this answer, apparently reading from the wrong cue card on the dais…
The media destroyed her after the presser.
Commentator Carmine Sabia stated, “Karine Jean-Pierre spent near 3 minutes on this and never answered the question Doocy asked her.”
Real Clear News White House reporter Philip Wegmann added, “She talks about the need for an equitable tax code and collective bargaining and climate change but does not address the root question.”
Manhattan Institute senior fellow Brian Riedl reiterated my point, stating, “This is excruciating to watch.
“Not only is she answering the question by reading from pre-written notes, but she seemed to have turned to the wrong page because she is not even remotely addressing the question topic (inflation).”
Considering corporate taxation to fight inflation was a Joe Biden talking point, one would have thought she would have been armed to the teeth with data on this, but she wasn’t, and that is because the data does not exist.
Psaki was bad, but Jean-Pierre is an absolute train wreck.
