Secretary of State Blinken is now sounding the alarm again.
Blinken now believes that Russia will make it’s move at any time, possibly even during the Olympics.
He stated there are troubling signs that have everyone worried a Russian invasion will happen sooner rather than later.
Drawing Down
Our embassy in Ukraine has already been ordered to evacuate.
Joe Biden has further stated that any American that remains in Ukraine should leave immediately.
He has warned that the United States will not be sending troops into Ukraine for fear of starting a world war.
Blinken, while in Melbourne, stated, “Simply put, we continue to see very troubling signs of Russian escalation, including new forces arriving at the Ukrainian border.
“As we’ve said before, we’re in a window when an invasion could begin at any time, and to be clear, that includes during the Olympics.”
Blinken reiterated his concerns for Americans in Ukraine, stating, “We will continue that process and we’ve also been very clear that any American citizens who remain in Ukraine should leave now.”
The only real threat that Russia faces right now is sanctions.
With a full military force in place and the aggressiveness that Russia has shown, it is hard to imagine that Putin is just trying to create leverage at this point.
Putin is also clearly not afraid of the sanctions threat, which is more than likely because Russia and its allies can do just as much damage to us as we can do to them.
