For the few conservatives that remain NBA fans, the Boston Celtics’ Marcus Smart may have just chased them all away.
Smart made some ill-advised comments about John Adams that are not sitting well.
Now, he is facing the wrath of patriots who do not like his dismissive comments about one of our Founding Fathers.
Not Funny
Smart was trying to be funny in referencing his defensive skills, and he decided to take a few shots at Adams in the process…
Takes little “talent” to play defense. Takes a wholelotta “want to”. Get every 50/50 ball. If you’re not quik defensively—get strong. Strength hides weaknesses. Take charges. Be a gr8 teammate. Compete. Never be ok w losing. No one remembers the 2nd US President. Only the 1st. https://t.co/98Lo5dkP9K

After several fans called Smart on his comments, he continued to fire back…
John Adams gonna be ok.
But he still 2nd place.

“The smell of the midnight lamp is very unwholesome. Never defraud yourself of sleep, nor your walk.” – John (2nd place) Adams

A Little Lesson
The irony in all of this is that besides being the second president of the United States and a Founding Father of the country, Adams was one of the biggest advocates among our Founders to end slavery.
Adams never owned a slave and found the practice abhorrent.
On slavery, Adams stated, “I have, through my whole life, held the practice of slavery in such abhorrence, that I have never owned a negro or any other slave, though I have lived for many years in times, when the practice was not disgraceful, when the best men in my vicinity thought it not inconsistent with their character, and when it has cost me thousands of dollars for the labor and subsistence of free men, which I might have saved by the purchase of negroes at times when they were very cheap.”
Adams was obviously a key player in the American Revolution, helped author the Declaration of Independence, and was a member of the Continental Congress.
One other notable accomplishment of Adams was adding John Marshall to the Supreme Court.
Marshall was critical in developing our legal system as well as ensuring the judiciary was developed as an independent branch of the government.
So, Mr. Smart, I hate to disappoint you, but just about everyone remembers the second president of the United States, unless they are making a not-so-funny joke.
