In a rather shocking and rebellious move against his own party, Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) went against other top Dems to call out the Hamas attacks against Israel.
Sherman made a fairly unexpected statement with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in the hot seat before the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Sherman told Blinken every missile should be considered a “war crime,” all 4,500 of them.
Against the Squad
Most of what we have heard from Democrats has been dominated by the Squad.
As far as they are concerned, it was Israel to blame and the country that should be on trial for war crimes.
Sherman sees it differently.
During the committee hearing, he stated, “Hamas has fired 4,500 rockets into Israel for the sole purpose of killing as many civilians as possible.
“Every one of these rockets was a war crime.”
He went on to say that the Iron Dome, Israel’s missile defense system that relies heavily on funding from the United States, “saved countless Israeli civilian lives and also, countless Palestinian lives by helping bring this fight to a more speedy conclusion.”
What makes his comments even more interesting is that Squad member Rep. Ilhan Omar is a member of this committee, so it would have been rather interesting to see her face as this statement was being made from a member of her own party.
Keep in mind, as this conflict was taking place, Omar was very critical of Israel, stating, “It would be appalling for the Biden administration to go through with $735 million in precision-guided weaponry to Netanyahu without any strings attached in the wake of escalating violence and attacks on civilians.”
She had also tweeted, “Israeli air strikes killing civilians in Gaza is an act of terrorism. Palestinians deserve protection. Unlike Israel, missile defense programs, such as Iron Dome, don’t exist to protect Palestinian civilians.”
Most would tell her that if Hamas did not want to risk the wrath of Israel’s defense capabilities, perhaps it should refrain from bombing Israel in the first place.
