Joe Biden is getting bullied into nominating a very specific person to the Supreme Court.
We already know that Rep. James Clyburn blackmailed Biden for his endorsement.
It goes a bit deeper than that, however, with Clyburn now applying pressure to have his candidate taken to the Senate for confirmation.
Pick Her, or Else…
Clyburn held Joe Biden over a barrel during the election for his endorsement.
Biden was dying, and a loss in South Carolina would have ended his campaign.
In steps James Clyburn, who was willing to endorse Joe Biden, with one caveat…
Biden had to promise during a debate that he would nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court.
Biden made the pledge, and the next day Clyburn endorsed him.
Now Clyburn is demanding that South Carolina District Court Judge Michelle Childs be that nominee.
Childs is actually already up for an appeals court spot, due on the Hill next week for her confirmation hearing.
Clyburn wants her on the Supreme Court bench, however, claiming he has already greased the ways Senators Graham and Scott of South Carolina.
He stated, “Now, as it relates to who, I don’t have anything against the seven or eight names that I have been floated as possibilities, [they are] all great people.
“The fact of the matter is, I have been discussing Michelle Childs with the president and his people now for, I guess at least 13 months now.”
The White House confirmed that Childs is on the shortlist.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates stated, “Judge Childs is among multiple individuals under consideration for the Supreme Court, and we are not going to move her nomination on the Court of Appeals while the President is considering her for this vacancy.
“At the same time, reporting indicating that the President is only seriously considering three potential nominees is incorrect.”
I will go out on a limb and say that Childs will be the nominee.
If she isn’t, Joe Biden will make an instant enemy out of Clyburn, something he can ill afford to do.
