Congress Pressuring Biden to Transfer Fighter Jets

There is now growing support in Congress to have the United States put a little more skin in the game in Ukraine.

Poland has offered to transfer its fighter jets to Ukraine if the United States will help replace their supply.

While Congress is supporting this, bipartisan support mind you, the White House continues to shoot the idea down.

They Don’t Need Them

The problem is not so much that Biden is not backing the plan as it is the narrative the administration is putting forward.

Ukraine has made it very clear they need more of everything to win this battle, including fighter jets.

Taking the stance that Ukraine does not need these when Russia is now less than 20 miles outside Kyiv is utterly ridiculous.

It has given the impression that the United States is not truly in this to win it, a position that seems to be supported by the fact that Kamala Harris was sent to Poland in the first place.

The House Problem Solvers Caucus (PSC), a moderate bipartisan committee, stated, “We, the 58 members of the Problem Solvers Caucus, urge continued U.S. commitment to the sovereignty of Ukraine and the freedom of the Ukrainian people in the face of Russia’s ongoing invasion.

“We strongly believe that the U.S. must provide additional defense material to Ukrainians protecting their nation.”

Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) agreed, stating, “It’s a bipartisan message… Send these MiGs.

“The question is well, why aren’t they being sent?… Enough talk, people are dying. Send them the planes that they need. They say they need MiGs.

“People say, ‘Well, maybe that’s not the ideal weapon for them.’ That’s what they say they want. They’re there.”

The truth is that Biden is worried that approving the transfer of jets could be construed as an escalation and have the United States directly involved in this conflict.

The question that must be answered here is if they think Putin really wants to get involved in a military conflict with the United States.

More importantly, what would China’s move be if that actually did happen?

Putin has been embarrassed by Ukraine in this war. His troops appear to be no match for our forces, so a victory would rely on the Chinese.

Now, I am not saying that we should get into this fight with our troops, but I feel reasonably confident in saying that the Chinese would more than likely advise Putin to back off before firing a shot in anger at any American troops.

Democrat members of Congress seem to be thinking along those same lines.

For instance, Senator Menendez (D-N.J.) stated, “There is bipartisan support for providing Ukraine with fighter jets of neighboring countries that they would know how to fly and engage in.

“Time is of the essence. The Ukrainians are getting bombarded and they do not have, at least as their country’s leaders suggest and assert, the wherewithal to compete in the sky… I don’t understand why we are not working expeditiously to facilitate planes to Ukraine.”

Senator Shaheen (D-N.H.) added, “It is disappointing to see the reluctance on the part of the administration and it is coming across as indecision and bickering.”

There are also additional repercussions to the indecision by Biden on this.

All of our allies are watching and dismayed at the lack of support being given to an ally in such a dire time.

In terms of world leadership, this country is losing more and more respect every day.

Our allies used to follow our lead, but it now appears as though we are losing our place at the front of that line.
