When Marine Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller Jr. posted a video about the lack of leadership atop the military right now, he expected to be disciplined.
He probably thought he would get a rank reduction or possibly even be asked to resign.
The powers that be, however, have decided that he will be court-martialed, a decision that will not go well with the American people.
Hearing Scheduled
According to reports, a court-martial hearing has been set for Scheller.
The hearing will be conducted on Thursday and Friday of next week at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.
Scheller gained national notoriety after the botched Afghanistan withdrawal.
In a video post, he stated, “Did anyone raise their hand and say, ‘We completely messed this up?’
“I’m not saying we can take back what has been done.
“All I asked for was accountability, for people to comment on what I said and to say, ‘Yes. Mistakes were made.’
“And had they done that I would’ve gone back into rank and file, submitted, and accomplished what I wanted.”
There is no doubt that Scheller broke the chain of command, something even his father admitted.
Mr. Scheller stated, “He broke chain of command … his crime was speaking truth to power, and power couldn’t handle it.
“While he broke chain of command – [Gens.] Austin, Milley, McKenzie – they broke the chain of trust and confidence in the American people. We’re mad, we’re mad as hell.”
The second part of this is that his behavior can be likened to Lt. Col. Vindman, the whistleblower during the Trump impeachment.
The difference being that Vindman was treated like a national hero, whereas Scheller is now facing a court-martial, significant brig time, a dishonorable discharge, and loss of benefits.
Scheller has served for 17 years and is well decorated, including a Bronze Star.
