The annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is generally a very good measuring stick for what candidates have public support.
We always knew that Trump would be a major player in 2024 whether he decided to run or not.
However, the straw poll taken at CPAC this weekend shows that he is actually the ONLY player conservatives want to see on the 2024 ballot.
Massive Win for Trump
Governor Ron DeSantis has had a pretty significant profile boost over the last few months.
Taking that into consideration, as well as the fact there are still plenty of Republicans that still do not like Trump, the results of this poll were a bit of a surprise.
I expected Trump to come out on top, but I did not expect him to triple his next closest competitor.
When the votes were counted, Trump hauled in a whopping 70 percent of the straw poll, with Ron DeSantis coming in a distant second at 21 percent.
Not a single other possible candidate topped one percent.
This was a huge gain for Trump over the 55 percent he won at the February CPAC conference in Orlando.
It now seems imminent that Trump will run, barring any major legal issues, so the challenge for him will be the same as it was in 2020… how does he convince anti-Trump conservatives to not only vote, but to vote for him?
