The one person I have been waiting to hear from during the SCOTUS nominee process is Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX).
With all the calls of racism over the grilling of Judge Jackson as Biden’s Supreme Court nominee, you just knew Cruz would have something epic to say.
He delivered as expected.
Judge Rogers Brown
The first black woman on the Supreme Court was supposed to be Judge Rogers Brown.
When she was nominated for a judiciary position by President Bush, then-Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) and Senator Byrd (D-W.V.) filibustered against her.
The resistance was so strong, Bush decided to pull her name off his shortlist for SCOTUS nominees.
Whenever conservative minorities are up for anything, they are accused of being race traitors, extremists, Uncle Toms, you name it.
Cruz hammed Democrats on this while letting Judge Jackson know her nomination hearing would be about her record, and nothing more.
Cruz, in part, stated, “It’s not about race.
“We will see Democrats and the media suggest that any senator that is skeptical of your nomination, that questions you vigorously, or that dares to vote against you must somehow harbor racial animus.
“I would note we are sitting on a committee where multiple members … happily filibustered Judge Janice Rogers Brown, a very qualified African American woman nominated to the [United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit], precisely because they wanted to prevent Judge Brown from becoming Justice Brown.”
He continued, “The senior Democrats on this committee also filibustered Miguel Estrada, as the staff for [then-]Sen. Ted Kennedy [(D-Mass.)] said in writing at the time … ‘because he is Hispanic.'”
Think about how any of this would have been treated had it been Republicans.
