With the White House now calling for his resignation and New York lawmakers ready to impeach Governor Andrew Cuomo, it is only normal to wonder why more staff members, especially women, are not jumping ship.
A member of his team recently spoke to the Daily Caller on this exact subject.
Her reasoning for staying may surprise you.
We Know It’s Over
Even as disgusting as the allegations are against Cuomo, there is something to be said of loyalty, especially in the political world.
Politicians need to know their staff will stand behind them on anything, which is why it seems many staffers are remaining with Cuomo right now.
The fact that impeachment seems imminent is keeping them on instead of driving them away.
One staffer told the Daily Caller, “If I weren’t as sure as I am that he will be impeached, I would leave.
“And if he doesn’t get impeached for some reason, I will leave.
“Honestly, the press team here is comprised of amazing people, but working for a man like that is against everything I believe in and I believe the women who have come forward.”
This is now more about serving the people of New York and making sure the office stays operational than anything else.
The anonymous staffer applauded how other staff members are stepping up, especially now with Cuomo hiding out at his Albany digs.
The staffer specifically mentioned senior adviser Richard Azzopardi for his dedication to the state of New York during these very trying times.
All the turmoil, however, is taking a toll.
The staffer stated, “I want people to know that what goes on at the chamber isn’t just the governor.
“There’s a whole team of people in this limbo right now that are good people that can’t do their jobs because of what’s going on.
“And it’s immensely frustrating as someone who loves this state as much as I do.”
To this point, Cuomo has resisted all calls for his resignation, but lawmakers do appear to have enough votes to impeach him if they go that route.
There are already rumors circulating that articles of impeachment will be introduced later this month.
