For those of us that grew up in the 1960s and 1970s, one of the most iconic movies of the time was “MASH.”
Sadly, one of the most famous characters in the movie, Hot Lips Houlihan, is no longer with us.
Sally Kellerman, who originally played Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan in the big-screen version of “MASH,” has passed away.
Kellerman was 84 years old.
Six-Decade Career
Kellerman has more than 150 TV and movie credits on her resume, which is quite an achievement in and of itself.
On that resume is one of the most iconic movies of our time… “MASH.”
The movie was later turned into a series starring Alan Alda, with Loretta Swit taking over for Kellerman as Hot Lips for the TV series.
Kellerman also made a splash in Rodney Dangerfield’s comedy, “Back to School.”
Kellerman played a college professor that caught Dangerfield’s eye.
In her later years, Kellerman found herself on TV more than the big screen, even landing a recurring role on the daytime soap, “The Young and the Restless.”
She received six awards and five additional nominations throughout her career, including “Best Supporting Actress” Oscar nomination in 1971 for MASH.
Rest in peace, Sally.
