This week, Democrats were outraged over a joke made by Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) at a private event.
After being gifted an oversized gavel, McCarthy joked about how hard it would be not to hit Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) over the head with it.
Now the situation has been reversed, with a Democrat strategist saying that she hoped Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) dies from COVID (he recently tested positive).
No Outrage?
This is more about the hypocrisy of the Democrat Party than anything else and proof that the bar is quite different for both parties.
When McCarthy made his comment, he was at a private function, and he was clearly joking.
Nobody expects McCarthy to attempt to hit Pelosi over the head if he becomes Speaker in 2022.
Even so, a handful of Democrats demanded he resign over the comments, even though none were outraged when Pelosi called him a moron just a few days before.
This brings us to the comments made by Kate Coyne-McCoy, the chief strategist of the Rhode Island Democratic Party.
Immediately after word got out that Senator Graham had tested positive for COVID, even after having the vaccine and being a strong advocate for the vaccine from day one, Coyne-McCoy decided to get cute on Twitter.
She posted, “It’s wrong to hope he dies from Covid right? Asking for a friend. #COVIDISNOTOVER #LINDSEYGRAHAM.”
With such outrage after McCarthy’s comments, everyone wants to know why Democrats are sitting on their hands after this tweet…

Not only has the Rhode Island Democrat Party been mum, but all those Democrats that lashed out at McCarthy have also been as quiet as church mice.
