Michigan Governor Whitmer was caught flying private last month for a trip to Florida.
The Governor made her trip when she was mandating that her residents stay home.
However, that is not the real scandal of this as the private jet and who paid for it is where the media is concentrating right now.
Who Paid for the Flight
Governors make pretty good money, but not enough to pay for private jet flights.
In April, when this story first broke, there was speculation that someone was trying to win influence with Whitmer for supplying her with the plane ride.
Whitmer’s office, at the time, denied that was the case, saying that Whitmer had taken the flight at her own expense.
That part of the story has now changed.
On Wednesday, again addressing the controversial trip, Whitmer made a confession of sorts regarding the flight.
She stated, “It was not a vacation and it was not a gift.
“This flight was not a gift.
“This flight was not paid for at taxpayer expense.”
Just using the word “gift” here also raised some eyebrows, as that is a term used by lobbyists in these cases.
Members of the media jumped all over the fact that Whitmer omitted “traveled at her own expense” from her explanation.
The media was not alone, as Republican Governors Association spokesperson Chris Gustafson stated, “Michiganders are tired of the growing stream of lies coming from Gov. Whitmer.
“Whitmer’s refusal to disclose basic details about her vacation to Florida is simply more proof that she is unfit to lead and it is time to Fire the Damn Governor.”
