Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has just made a very bold statement.
DeSantis will not be seeking the endorsement of former President Donald Trump in this upcoming 2022 gubernatorial election.
This will surely fuel more fire regarding a potential run by DeSantis in 2024.
Don’t Need It
Honestly, I doubt that DeSantis needs Trump’s endorsement.
And, let’s be completely transparent here, it is not exactly as though Trump has been kind to DeSantis lately.
Trump knows that if DeSantis runs, he will be the top-ranked opponent for Trump, so he has been talking a little smack about DeSantis as of late.
There is also the fact that Trump is starting to be seen more as a problem by some GOP strategists simply because he will not let the 2020 election results go.
We are all seeing what Democrats are doing with this January 6 committee, and nobody wants to be part of that not only during the election cycle, but for another four years if Trump wins office.
It has become exhausting, especially with Americans facing so much financial hardship right now.
Sources inside DeSantis’ camp have confirmed that the Florida governor has not, and will not ask for Trump’s endorsement in this election.
On Monday, Trump tried to defuse the situation, claiming responsibility for DeSantis getting elected in the first place.
Trump told Eric Bolling, “I was very responsible for him getting elected, as you know, but I have a very good relationship with him.”
On whether DeSantis will run in 2024, Trump stated, “I don’t know that he wants to run.
“Now, I have a good relationship with Ron. I don’t know that he wants to run.”
I honestly have no idea if DeSantis is distancing himself or just playing coy at this point, but it is a move that is getting noticed.
Do I believe there is a legitimate rift between DeSantis and Trump? Absolutely not.
Do I think perhaps DeSantis is getting sick and tired of Trump taking all the credit for DeSantis winning his first election? Absolutely yes.
DeSantis is not a fool, however, because he knows he will need Trump’s supporters to win a presidential election if Trump decides not to run.
Just a little something to keep our eyes on as November gets closer and the 2024 field starts to get figured out.
