The Spanish prime minister recently had a sad announcement to make:
18 migrants passed away while storming a Spanish enclave.
2,000 mostly sub-Saharan African migrants recently rushed the enclave of Melilla from Morocco in what the prime Minister described as an attack on Spain’s “territorial integrity.”
The group approached the Moroccan border with the small territory at dawn on June 25.
More than 500 managed to enter a border control area after dismantling a fence with shears.
Moroccan officials made the announcement that night that 18 of the migrants had passed away during the rush.
Some were trampled.
Some fell from great heights.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez knew exactly where to place the blame:
“If anyone is responsible for everything that happened at the border, it is the mafias that traffic in human beings.”
As of June 26, the area has returned to calm.
