Monday was a dark day in New York City.
A total of 1,430 city workers were terminated.
This was not for bad work performance, being late, or any other logical reason.
They were terminated because they did not want to take the vaccine.
FIRED!
Almost 2,500 city workers in NYC did not have the vaccine.
They were all put on warning that if they did not take the vaccine, they would lose their jobs.
Roughly 1,000 of them took the jab, leaving the remaining 1,430 vulnerable.
Democrat Mayor Eric Adams stated, “Our goal was always to vaccinate, not terminate, and city workers stepped up and met the goal placed before them.
“Out of all the new city employees who received notices two weeks ago, only two who worked last week are no longer employed by the city.
“I’m grateful to all the city workers who continue to serve New Yorkers and ‘Get Stuff Done’ for the greatest city in the world.”
Notice how he does not mention the total of 1,430 workers who had to go home to their families and tell them they no longer have a job.
The Department of Education was the hardest hit, losing a total of 914 workers.
A reported 50 first responders were fired.
Last week, the New York Times reported that this number could go much higher before all is said and done.
There are a reported 13,000 workers that filed for religious exemptions.
The NYT report stated, “Besides the 3,000 workers that could be fired, another 9,000 city workers are also unvaccinated, but are seeking exemptions, or working with unions to avoid terminations.
“In all, about 13,000 workers have applied for exemptions, which are known as reasonable accommodations, and 54 percent of those requests have been processed so far, according to city officials. About 2,100 were approved and 4,910 were denied.”
When all is said and done, the city will have increased its unemployment rate about at least one percent, possibly as much as three or four if most of the exemptions are turned down, as we would expect.
You do not see this happening in red states or red cities.
Democrats are taking away the living of hard-working Americans.
That is the bottom line.
