I just don’t understand what Republicans in statehouses are thinking right now.
Democrats are clearly gerrymandering, openly eliminating GOP seats.
Yet, we have seen Republicans shoot down maps that would do the same in several cases.
The latest case being Florida, where state legislators are panning DeSantis’ map and willingly turning over two seats to Democrats.
Dirty or Fair?
So, to be clear, I am against gerrymandering and I very much believe the system is broken.
Having said that, if Democrats are doing it and getting away with it, why are Republicans so willing to play fair instead of getting in the mud with Democrats?
The map that had been drawn up would have likely led to a 20-8 advantage for the GOP in Florida.
That map was shot down by a Republican-dominated state House.
Instead, they are proposing an 18-10 map, giving Democrats two additional seats…
Here is the partisan breakdown for the House’s Congressional plan.
The biggest differences between house and senate is Tampa and Orlando. The Orlando difference is a big dispute point between the two chambers. Yes this nukes #FL07. Meanwhile #FL05 remains #flapol #sayfie pic.twitter.com/k9wbmheaBN

The concern seems to be that Democrats are willing to do something Republicans are not, which is fight for their map.
I just don’t understand why they would not approve the map and if Dems fight and courts end up rejecting the map, then put out the softer version.
According to DeSantis, he is fixing a gerrymandered map, not creating one.
The last map was drawn in 2015 by a Democrat judge, which DeSantis called a “flagrant gerrymander.”
I still believe that Republicans will take back Congress.
However, I am hardly as confident as I was two months ago when I was expecting three dozen seats to flip.
At this point, I think we could be talking a single-digit advantage for the GOP if they continue to take it on the chin with these new maps.
Are you surprised Republicans are not fighting harder for these maps?
