The case against former Louisville police detective Brett Hankinson is over.
The jury was sent to deliberate early Thursday.
They came back not long after, acquitting the officer on all charges.
Not Guilty
Hankinson was brought up on charges of felony wanton endangerment for the raid that resulted in the death of Breonna Taylor.
The day before the jury was sent to deliberate, the former detective took the stand in his own defense.
Hankinson became emotional defending his decision to open fire after entering the home.
The raid was conducted as part of an investigation into a drug-dealing operation.
When officers entered the apartment via a no-knock warrant, the officers claimed to announce themselves.
Kenneth Walker, Taylor’s boyfriend, claimed he thought the officers were intruders and did not hear them identify themselves.
He opened fire on the officers, and the officers returned fire, with dozens of shots being fired in the exchange.
Taylor was hit six times and died.
Walker was charged for opening fire on the police, but the charges were eventually dismissed with prejudice.
The city of Louisville has awarded Taylor’s family a settlement of $12 million as well as promising police reforms.
