On Wednesday, our military leaders testified before a House committee to offer more insight into the botched Afghanistan withdrawal.
There was a statement given by General McKenzie that went widely unreported in the mainstream media.
This is a shame because it has blown the lid off a massive coverup by this administration.
After the suicide attack in Kabul, a drone strike was approved that reportedly took out an ISIS-K planner.
When the strike was reported, we were told it was a righteous strike of a high-value target.
There was no mention of collateral damage at all.
Only after ground reports surfaced that civilians were killed did the administration admit that civilians may have been killed by a secondary explosion.
A week later, AFTER an explosive report by the New York Times, the administration came clean about the attack.
I maintained from the outset that our military leaders knew exactly what had happened and were hoping the truth would never get out.
General McKenzie confirmed that during the hearing, admitting that within hours, they knew they had killed innocents.
He stated, “We knew the strike hit civilians within four or five hours after the strike occurred and U.S. Central Command released a press release saying that.”
That last part, however, is not entirely true, either.
This is exactly what the statement said regarding civilian loss of life that was released on August 29:
“We are aware of reports of civilian casualties following our strike on a vehicle in Kabul today.
“We are still assessing the results of this strike, which we know disrupted an imminent ISIS-K threat to the airport. We know that there were substantial and powerful subsequent explosions resulting from the destruction of the vehicle, indicating a large amount of explosive material inside that may have caused additional casualties. It is unclear what may have happened, and we are investigating further.
“We would be deeply saddened by any potential loss of innocent life.
“- Capt. Bill Urban, USN, U.S. Central Command Spokesman”
Show me the line that admits they know they killed civilians… I will wait.
The statement admits they know of the reports, but it does not confirm them. Secondly, the lie that a secondary explosion would have been the cause is already being put in place. It is just more lies.
It only gets worse from there.
McKenzie stated that it took them a “few days” to realize they had hit the wrong target, saying, “We did not know, though, that the target of the strike was in fact a mistake until some time later. Took us a few days to run that down.”
A “few days?”
Then how can this administration explain the likes of both Secretary of Defense and General Milley continuing to portray this strike as righteous when they clearly knew within hours they had killed innocents and within days that they had botched the strike?
More importantly, why did it take the report from the New York Times weeks later for them to come clean rather than openly admitting the mistake several days later when they knew the facts?
On August 29, CENTCOM released a statement that there were “no indications” of civilian casualties and the updated statement posted above, neither of which fully acknowledged the drone strike had killed civilians.
On September 1, Milley stated that “procedures were correctly followed” and the strike was “righteous.”
Both were false, proven so when the NYT piece was published on September 10.
It was not until September 17 that the administration came completely clean regarding the strike details.
They lied… all of them lied, and the Biden administration is complicit.
When will someone, anyone, be held accountable for this?
