GOP Incumbent Congressman Will NOT Run for Re-election

The Republican Party just took a shot across the bow on Friday.

Rep. Chris Jacobs (R-N.Y.) has announced that he will not be running for re-election.

After significant pushback, Jacobs decided to take himself out of the race for saying he would vote in favor of an AR-15 ban after the Uvalde, TX, school shooting.

No Middle Ground

Jacobs claims there is no middle ground in either party right now.

He stated, “We have a problem in our country in terms of both our major parties.

“If you stray from a party position, you are annihilated.

“For the Republicans, it became pretty apparent to me over the last week that that issue is gun control. Any gun control. For Democrats, it’s such things as abortions.

“This requirement of 100 percent fealty or else is not good for our democracy and certainly is one reason not much gets done in Washington, D.C.

“In regard to gun control and achieving some rational, effective gun control, I believe the real hindrance right now to meaningful reform is trust.”

Well, first, it is a Democratic Republic, and second, the Second Amendment is pretty specific in what it states and it is not open for interpretation.

There are plenty of other measures that can be taken without taking guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens.

Jacobs does not seem to understand that once you open this door, it stays open, and the days of the Second Amendment are limited.

If he does not get that, then perhaps he is in the wrong party.
