Outright prohibition of marijuana in America began in the 1920s.
Now, about 100 years later, Congress just might change all that.
Congress is about to vote on the idea of nationally decriminalizing marijuana.
The vote comes as a result of the drug being legalized by multiple American states over the last decade.
If the house passes the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act, or “MORE” Act, it would “decriminalize and deschedule cannabis.”
Drug reform advocates have been calling for nationwide legalization of marijuana for several years.
One of the most popular arguments in the pro-weed camp is the comparison to nicotine and alcohol.
It could be interpreted that these substances cause much more harm than weed, yet (probably because of their companies’ tremendous lobbying power) remain legal and readily available.
The MORE Act has already cleared the House Judiciary Committee.
