The arrogance of the Cheney family is utterly astounding.
In all honesty, after what Dick Cheney did to this country, I would have thought people would have been smart enough not to elect anyone named Cheney to office.
Liz Cheney, however, has been representing the people of Wyoming’s at-large district since 2017.
Even though this is likely to be her last term, she appears to be entertaining a run at the White House in 2024.
Down the Road
Cheney has hinted at this before, but with her current mission to end Donald Trump, it is not a surprise to see her teasing a possible run.
While appearing on CNN this weekend, she dropped the bomb.
Jake Tapper asked, “You’ve made it clear you don’t think Donald Trump shouldn’t be trusted with the presidency again.
“Are you willing to run for president to try to stop him? At least in part?”
Cheney responded, “I haven’t really at this point. I’ve not made a decision about 2024. I am really very focused on the substance of what we have to do on the select committee.
“Very focus on the work that I have to do to represent the people of Wyoming. I’ll make a decision about 2024 down the road.”
What she said next has me believing that if Trump announces, she will throw her hat into the ring.
Cheney continued, “But I do think as we look towards the next presidential election, as I said, I believe that our nation stands on the edge of an abyss. I do believe that we all have to really think very seriously about the dangers we face in the threats we face and we have to elect serious candidates.
“We’ve got to look people who will take their obligations and their oath seriously and who will deal with issues of substance with respect for people who have disagreements.
“And we’ve got to be able to come together and stop the very dangerous kind of politics we have lived through over the last year and a half certainly.”
Most of the major players in the party will bow out if Trump runs, and since Cheney has already taken on the role of the high and mighty, it is very easy to envision her running against Trump.
This would likely give us a field of Trump, Pence, Cheney, Asa Hutchinson, and Larry Hogan.
You tell me who comes out of that crowd with the nomination.
