Get ready for something to be entirely blown out of context by the January 6 Select Committee.
Apparently, their entire case to get a DOJ referral against Donald Trump comes down to Ivanka Trump.
Rep. Cheney (R-WY) is now citing two conversations with Ivanka where she asked her father to do something to stop the violence at the Capitol.
Bombshell or Fake News?
The mainstream media is latching on to this development as though it is the bombshell that is going to take Trump down, but I am not so sure of that.
Keep in mind, we know Trump has the news on all the time, so he was surely aware of what was happening at the Capitol.
In fact, several of his staffers have repeatedly stated that when they saw the riot start, they were trying to figure out the best way to de-escalate the situation.
Cheney has now revealed that she has “direct testimony” that Ivanka Trump had reached out to Trump on two different occasions to do something.
Chairman Thompson stated, “It’s highly concerning on our part that people raise money for one activity and we can’t find the money being spent for that particular activity.
“So we’ll continue to look at it and the financing is one of those things we will continue to look at very closely.”
Now, one could easily argue that Trump should have come forward earlier, but that is about as far as that goes.
The counter-argument is that does anyone really think anything Trump said once this got underway was going to change anything.
Who was going to hear any announcement at that point?
Again, I am not taking a side here, just using commonsense that the plea would have fallen on deaf ears regardless.
Cheney added, “Any man who would not do so, any man who would provoke a violent assault on the Capitol to stop the counting of electoral votes, any man who would watch television as police officers were being beaten, as his supporters were invading the Capitol of the United States, is clearly unfit for future office.
“Clearly can never be anywhere near the Oval Office ever again.”
The problem with this committee right now is that any report is tainted because we all know they went into this with an outcome in mind.
They want to tie Trump directly to the organization of the riot, but that has already fallen apart, so now they are going to make it sound as though Trump sat back with his feet up glad that it happened.
