Democrats are up to no good again.

Once again, Senator Manchin (D-W.V.) is slamming the breaks on them.

Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.) is looking to pass an all-encompassing piece of legislation via reconciliation, but Manchin is picking it apart.

Not Happening

I am always wary about Manchin taking a stand, as it is often more for headlines that effect.

This time, however, it is probably for real.

Schumer is hoping to ram through climate change legislation and tax provisions in a reconciliation bill that would also include Affordable Care Act subsidies and an effort to lower prescription drug prices.

Manchin is all for the latter, but the former gives him pause for concern.

The reason I say I believe him this time is because sweeping climate change reforms would crush Manchin in West Virginia and above all else, he is going to protect his paycheck.

Manchin spokesperson Sam Runyon stated, “Political headlines are of no value to the millions of Americans struggling to afford groceries and gas as inflation soars to 9.1%.

“Senator Manchin believes it’s time for leaders to put political agendas aside, reevaluate and adjust to the economic realities the country faces to avoid taking steps that add fuel to the inflation fire.”

Democrats may not realize it, but Manchin is actually saving Democrats from themselves.

The sweeping changes they want to make would cripple the fossil fuel industry, driving prices even higher.
