Democrat leadership has been completely tone-deaf throughout the debacle that has unfolded in Afghanistan.
Where is Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.)? Dancing with Stephen Colbert at a New York festival.
Where is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)? Attending a Women’s event in San Francisco.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (D-CA) is now calling them out, demanding that Pelosi return to DC and call the House back to session.
No Longer Safe
Instead of addressing Afghanistan, the top Dems in the party continue to be distracted by partisan spending and their obsession with Donald Trump.
When Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who serves as the House Intelligence Committee chair, stated that there were six months of intelligence showing how quickly Afghanistan would collapse, he accidentally proved to the country that he has not been doing his job.
As bad as that is, the behavior over the last week of Democrats has been shameful.
Top Democrat leaders are ignoring the issue, and Joe Biden hid for hours before addressing the nation after the Kabul terrorist attacks.
Lower-level Democrats are just as outraged as we are over this, yet they cannot do anything about it because Pelosi will not call the House back into session.
Actually, when one House Democrat took it upon himself to go to Afghanistan to see what was happening firsthand, he and the Republican that joined him, both veterans, were chided by Pelosi and the White House.
Now McCarthy is calling for action, in part, stating, “What’s going to happen now where we’re watching ISIS grow again in Afghanistan, when 5,000 prisoners were released inside Afghanistan, when they now know where they can come to America?
“We’re less than three weeks from the anniversary of 9/11 and this administration has put America in this position, this is unacceptable. Nancy Pelosi needs to bring us back into session, bring up this bill, move this deadline and make sure every single American is able to leave Afghanistan.”
