Senator McConnell (R-KY) just got a nice taste of the cancel culture in this country.
McConnell made a comment this week regarding the black voters.
At the time he commented, I had predicted it would be a problem, and it did not take long for the outrage to come.
Now McConnell says the inadvertent omission has resulted in an “outrageous characterization” of his statement.
Mitch Goes Off
The quote made by McConnell that got everybody riled up was, “The concern is misplaced, because if you look at the statistics, African American voters are voting in just as high a percentage as Americans.”
His point was pretty clear in that he was looking at averages of all Americans as well as black Americans.
He was responding to allegations of voter suppression because Republicans are not backing the voting rights legislation on the table by Democrats.
I want to make a quick note here… Democrats continue to make this about voting rights, but the fact is this would federalize elections, abolish voter ID laws, and use taxpayer dollars to fund campaigns.
But you won’t hear them tout any of that… it is all the fine print they don’t want anyone to know about.
Now, back to Mitch…
After social media blew up portraying his comments as racist, McConnell lashed out.
He said that he wanted to “take an opportunity at the outset here to address the outrageous characterization of my history and record on voting rights and race relations.
“This outrageous characterization of my record as a result of leaving one word out inadvertently the other day, which I just now have supplied to you, is deeply offensive.”
He concluded, “I’ve never been accused of this sort of thing before, it’s hurtful and offensive and I think some of the critics know it’s totally nonsense.”
Now, most of you know I do not like McConnell, but this was clearly a mischaracterization of what he said and gaslighting on the part of pundits.
It is yet another example of the party that tells us they want to unify the country trying to drive racial tension between the left and right.
Do you think McConnell is being wronged here or do you think he is a racist?
