NY Lt. Gov. Resigns Office

Are there any honest politicians left in this country?

Yet another politician, this time Democrat New York Lt. Governor Brian Benjamin, has been forced to resign amid a major scandal.

Benjamin has been indicted on five corruption-related charges.

Lock Him Up

Early Tuesday, the news broke that Benjamin had been indicted on charges that he allegedly attempted to trade a state grant for campaign contributions.

Initially, it was unclear if he would resign.

However, after discussing the matter with Governor Hochul, Benjamin submitted his resignation.

This is not a good look for Hochul, either.

After taking over for Governor Cuomo, Hochul chose Benjamin as her running mate in the 2022 election.

On Tuesday, she addressed the indictment, stating, “I have accepted Brian Benjamin’s resignation effective immediately.

“While the legal process plays out, it is clear to both of us that he cannot continue to serve as Lieutenant Governor.

“New Yorkers deserve absolute confidence in their government, and I will continue working every day to deliver for them.”

This will definitely give Hochul’s opponents in the primary something to feed off.

If she makes it through, it will also give the GOP something to focus on.

While I doubt it will help a Republican take the governor’s mansion, it will put a spotlight on the Democrat Party and have everyone watching Hochul and her administration just a bit closer.

This is exactly the type of scandal the GOP needs to pounce on to continue to gain momentum in Congress for the 2022 cycle.
