Just when we thought some common sense was beginning to seep into the Democrat Party, our hopes were shattered.
To this point, NYC Mayor-elect Eric Adams has sounded more like a conservative than a liberal.
That all changed this week when he revealed his stance on schools with Omicron creating a rise in COVID cases in the state.
Shut Them Down
Adams has been putting up a very strong front on crime, which is great for the city of New York.
Mayor de Blasio has been letting criminals run rampant around the city, so this was giving us all hope that Adams would not be the “typical” Democrat coming into office.
Adams also got some slaps on the back by conservatives for snubbing Joe Biden during a recent White House meeting.
Rather than wait for Joe Biden to greet everyone, Adams left and returned to New York.
Today, however, he gets knocked down a few rungs, once again pulling the plugs on schools.
We know how devastating school closures are, yet Adams is already willing to put that on the table even though Omicron is far less lethal than previous strains of COVID.
He stated, “We’re looking at those areas where we have large outbreaks. We are temporarily shutting down the schools in those areas.
“I think it’s smart, it’s a great way to go, and we’re going to continue to do that.
“This is a moving target. And we need to be clear on that. What we’re looking at today is not what we’re going to be looking at next week.
“We did not know there was going to be a new variant that was going to be in our city after leaving South Africa.
“We have to adjust based on what we’re facing. And let’s be clear, this city is great at facing crises and responding to crises, and both crises we’re facing, the economic crises and the COVID crises and I’m going to make the right decisions to ensure that we can continue to thrive as a city. COVID is here, New Yorkers and Americans.
“We need to learn how do we live with it in a smart way, do smart things to protect the health of New Yorkers, but at the same time, to continue to function as a city.”
I am sure most New York parents would disagree, as now they will be forced to find childcare during the week or be forced to miss work… again.
Sorry, New York, but it looks like you are getting a dud instead of a stud.
