Kansas GOP Overrides Governor Veto on Congressional Map

The GOP in Kansas has managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

The situation in Kansas looked dire in terms of getting the new congressional map passed.

Only days ago, several Republicans voted to uphold the governor’s veto, only there were not enough votes to do so.

However, when the veto came back up for a vote, the GOP had its house in order and was able to override the veto and leave the new map in place.

See Ya!

To this point, the GOP had been dealt loss after loss on the new congressional maps.

Every gerrymandering case the GOP had, had been lost in state House votes or the courts.

The situation in Kansas appeared to be more of the same, but the GOP managed to pull this one out.

With the new map in place, Democrats stand to lose a seat, offsetting one of the dozen or so that Democrats have managed to swing with their own maps.

Rep. Sharice Davids’ (D-KS) new district is not a lock for Republicans, but they have a better chance of winning under the new lines.

Joe Biden won her district in the 2020 election by a mere four points, so based on Joe’s approval rating, this seat should be very winnable for the GOP.

Democrats, of course, went ballistic, with State Rep. Brandon Woodward stating, “I don’t support unconstitutional, gerrymandered maps.”

And, to be honest, nor do I, but that is how the system works these days.

Furthermore, Democrats are getting away with pure murder right now in terms of drawing new lines.

One of the most prominent examples is New York, where Democrats have squeezed the GOP out of four congressional seats.

The GOP is still lagging, but at least they finally got one back in the win column.

Do you think Congress needs to change the rules on district maps to ensure gerrymandering no longer happens?
