Last time I checked, Joe Biden said he was going to shut down Guantanamo Bay.
So, can someone please tell me why he is about to drop $4 million into a “secret” project?
Reports are now surfacing that the Pentagon has approved the construction of a secret court chamber that will be shut off from direct public access.
So Much for That Idea…
When Joe Biden was on the campaign trail and after taking office, he stated that one of his main objectives would be to close Guantanamo Bay for good.
Yet, the administration is now moving forward with the construction of a private courtroom that is expected to cost upwards of $4 million.
This not only goes against yet another Biden pledge, but it creates even more secrecy at the base.
Guantanamo Bay has been hammered with allegations in the past for its lack of transparency, so I am not sure how a secret courtroom is going to go over with media and liberals.
Will this be another pass for Biden or will they actually go on the attack against him?
While the new courtroom will enable viewers to see in a different viewing room, they will not be able to be present in the room as they were before.
Additionally, all audio will be put on a 40-second delay to allow for some testimony to be beeped out.
Attorney James R. Hodes stated, “I’ve observed trials in Mongolia that were more transparent than this.”
Again, however, we have to question why this is even taking place considering the stance of the Biden administration after taking office.
At the time, National Security Council spokeswoman Emily Horne stated, “We are undertaking an NSC process to assess the current state of play that the Biden administration has inherited from the previous administration, in line with our broader goal of closing Guantanamo.
“The NSC will work closely with the Departments of Defense, State, and Justice to make progress toward closing the GTMO facility, and also in close consultation with Congress.”
I know Biden likes to throw away money, but approving a $4 million courtroom for a base that is going to get shut down is just flat-out ridiculous.
Do you think Guantanamo Bay should remain open or do you want to see it closed?
