Phil Murphy’s Wife Tests Positive for COVID After Costa Rica Trip

New Jersey’s Democrat governor, Phil Murphy, is about to have a PR nightmare on his hands.

Murphy abandoned his constituents just as Omicron was surging in New Jersey for a vacation to Costa Rica.

Now, his wife has tested positive, precisely what Murphy did NOT need to happen after already being under scrutiny for taking the trip.

Uh Oh…

Murphy’s office is already putting a bit of a spin on this to distance her positive test from the vacation.

His office stated, “The Governor and First Lady tested themselves due to a recent known non-family contact in their home.

“Required procedures for reporting, case investigation, and contact tracing have been followed.”

Governor Murphy, nor his children, have tested positive since his wife’s positive test.

Murphy took off for his trip to Costa Rica on December 22.

The problem was the state had hit a rolling average of more than 14,000 cases per day when he was putting on suntan lotion and sipping rum drinks on the beach.

Even though we have been advised against traveling during the surge, Murphy tried to justify the trip as much-needed family time.

When he was asked if it was a good idea to take the trip at that particular time, he stated, “We’re going to spend some time together as a family.

“Please God, we need that.”

This is a real optics problem for Murphy, who has been one of the more heavy-handed Democrat governors in terms of lockdowns and mandates in the state.

While doing so, he has become a legend in the “rules for thee, not for me” scoreboard, often flouting his own rules during the pandemic.

This almost cost Murphy his gubernatorial re-election bid, narrowly defeating his GOP opponent by less than three points.

One would think he would have learned his lesson, but now that he has his paycheck locked up for the next four years, it appears to be business as usual for Murphy.

What do you think of Murphy leaving his state amid the Omicron surge to travel to Costa Rica?
