Minneapolis School District Defends Racist Lay-off Plan

Pandering…

It was what is making the world go around right now, but nothing like this.

Minneapolis Public Schools decided that one of the best ways to promote racial harmony is by issuing white teachers who will be laid off before any minority.

The Right Thing

After the plan was released, there was outrage among all communities.

The explanation made it even worse, with the district responding, “To remedy the continuing effects of past discrimination, Minneapolis Public Schools and the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers (MFT) mutually agreed to contract language that aims to support the recruitment and retention of teachers from underrepresented groups as compared to the labor market and to the community served by the school district.”

So to make up for something that happened two centuries ago, you will lay off white teachers, regardless of tenure, before a single minority gets laid off.

Yeah, that will not create any resentment.

And that resentment is on both sides. You will create racial tension where there was none, and you will also insult minorities.

Some residents responded…

Minnesota state Rep. Jeremy Munson added, “The Minneapolis teachers Union has taken a racist approach and agreed to protect your job based on your skin color, over your job performance or seniority.

“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but racist employment contracts have no place in our society.”

Tough to imagine this case does not wind up before the Supreme Court at some point.

Cannot wait to see how that debate goes!
