The effort by Democrats to hold the House in 2022 just took a major hit.
Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) has announced that he is retiring from office.
This is a seat that Democrats desperately needed if they had any hopes of maintaining their hold on the House, but now it will be up for grabs.
Devastating Blow
Kind represents the 3rd District in Wisconsin, but his seat is considered a swing district.
He was, however, a safe pick for everyone, having been in office for a quarter-century.
With his retirement, suddenly, this seat becomes a Republican target.
In all honestly, it should not be that hard to turn, considering that Trump carried this district in both the 2016 and 2020 elections.
That may have even influenced Kind’s decision to walk away, fearing he would lose in the upcoming 2022 cycle.
Politico reporter Ally Mutnick is already ringing the panic bell, tweeting, “NEWS: Rep. Ron Kind (D) will announce his retirement Tuesday from #WI03, a swing seat that Trump carried twice.
“This is a huge blow to Dems’ chances of keeping their House majority.”
House Speaker Pelosi continues to portray a confident front, but rumors are surfacing that she is already eyeing the exits if she loses her gavel.
She surely will know how difficult the last two years of Biden’s term will be as well as likely defeat in 2024, and she is unlikely to want to have anything to do with it.
In the meantime, expect a major push of legislation from Democrats because they all now know their time is running out.
