Remember how the Pentagon and White House stated the “real” number of people left behind was probably about 100?
Well, that number was pretty much blown out of the water in US-sponsored journalists alone.
A stunning report broke that hundreds of US-sponsored journalists were abandoned in Afghanistan along with everyone else.
Can’t Get Out
Journalists were assured by our government that they would have safe passage out of Afghanistan if they wanted to leave.
However, Fox News has confirmed that hundreds of journalists sponsored by the United States were left behind.
Along with United States citizens, these individuals should have been at the front of the line, but that was far from the case.
These individuals may not be US citizens, but the work they have done, many of them for more than a decade, has put a massive target on their heads by the Taliban.
All the journalists were reportedly employed by the US Agency for Global Media.
Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), the ranking member on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, stated, “It is absolutely disgraceful the US State Department claimed they evacuated their local employees when in reality they abandoned hundreds of USAGM journalists and their families.”
He estimated that 500 people in this category were left behind, even though the Pentagon had earlier stated that all those with prioritized status had been evacuated.
Only 50 USAMG journalists made it out, but they were reportedly helped by other governments, not the United States.
Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) stated, “These Afghan allies are among the people most endangered at the present moment for the good work they have done over two decades.
“Urgent attention must now turn to finding the best way to get them to safety.”
Jamie Fly, president of RFE/RL, added, “You would have expected that the United States government, which helped create the space for journalism and civil society in Afghanistan over the last 20 years, would have tried to do more over the last several weeks to assist journalists who made a decision that it was best for them to leave the country.
“But they consistently failed to do that.
“It’s incredibly frustrating.
“These are journalists who have spent their lives trying to provide news and information for the Afghan people and who have often come under assault for doing so. The future scenario for journalism in Afghanistan is incredibly tenuous.”
In one fell swoop, Joe Biden has managed to destroy the credibility of the United States around the globe, and sadly, that will more than likely result in the unnecessary loss of innocent lives.
