Tensions in Ukraine are rising even higher today.
Reports surfaced earlier today that Russia has started to conduct exercises within 50 miles of the Ukraine border.
This is a joint exercise with Belarus, which is a close ally of Russia.
What Is Going On?
As everyone knows by now, Russia has more than 100,000 troops along the Ukraine border.
It has also been amassing large amounts of military stores by its front lines.
The one item that initially raised a lot of concern was the stockpiling of blood supplies.
France has stated that maneuvers are clearly a “violent” gesture on the part of Russia to intimidate Ukraine.
Russia has basically closed off Ukraine at this point, accumulating troops just outside of Belarus, Moldova, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, and in Crimea.
In other words, Ukraine is now entirely surrounded by Russia and/or its allies.
Russia has also continued to be very aggressive when reporting back about talks it has had with other countries to try to de-escalate the situation.
For instance, Soviet Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated, “I’m honestly disappointed that our conversation turned out like the mute with the deaf.
“We appear to be listening but we’re not hearing anything.
“Our detailed explanations fell on unprepared ground.
“It’s like when they say that Russia is waiting for the ground to freeze so that tanks can easily enter Ukraine.
“It seems that our British colleagues were on similar [frozen] ground today, off of which bounced all the facts we presented them.”
His British counterpart, Liz Truss, responded, “I can’t see any other reason for having 100,000 troops stationed on the border, apart from to threaten Ukraine.
“And if Russia is serious about diplomacy, they need to remove those troops and desist from the threats.
“No one is undermining Russia’s security – that is simply not true.”
Kamala Harris is now reportedly entering the fray, having been appointed as the new lead on the Ukraine crisis, which considering her disastrous record in office so far, is not exactly going to instill confidence in anyone.
